Paintings live in a web of relationships between the object and the viewer, the personal and the cultural. In the Peepers series, the paintings are a mash-up of vernacular imagery such as drugstore gift items and greeting cards, with the devotional imagery of Catholicism and the history of western painting. Mapping aesthetic and class boundaries, the works explore contradictory definitions of beauty in painting.
